Internet Merchant Accounts

In order to accept and process credit cards online, You must have what is called an internet merchant account. Internet merchant accounts are a relationship between you and your merchant service provider which allows you to accept credit cards from any visa, mastercard, discover and american express card holder.

How Internet Merchant Accounts work

When you process a credit card over the internet, You must enter the information into a payment gateway. A payment gateway is a software version of a credit card machine you swipe your card through at the local store. You can do this manually or if you have a shopping cart software, this can be done automatically.

After the information is entered into the payment gateway, It is sent to the aquiring bank which sends back an approved or decline response. All of this takes place in mere seconds.

How You Recieve Your Funds

At the end of the day (usually 5pm) your account is automatically batched out for the day. a lump sum of the total sales you have made for the day with be automatically transfered int the bank account of your choosing, This can be your personal account or business account with any bank or federal credit union in the united states. It usually takes 24-72 hours to recieve the funds in your account.

You can still continue to process credit cards after you have batched out for the day, However these funds will be sent durring the next days batch.
